About
Graig
Graig has
been playing music since a very young age. Growing up in
Haddonfield, New Jersey, a suburb of Philadelphia, he began his
musical life with six years of piano lessons. Although he was no
Mozart on the keys, these early lessons gave him the musical background
that would prove very useful in the future. Graig's passion for
music took shape as a high school student. Inspired
by such
diverse sources as Metallica, Grateful Dead and the Beatles, he began
studying guitar at age 16. His lessons covered not only the
fundamentals of guitar playing, but music
theory and ear training as
well. Graig's teacher emphasized improvisation and creativity
over the memorization of rock
songs. This approach left a lasting
impression on Graig, and led him to be particularly inclined to lead
guitar.
In 2002, Graig expanded his musical knowledge by
spending a summer at Boston's Berklee
College of Music.
In addition to taking lessons in guitar, theory, and ear training, he
gained valuable experience playing in rock and jazz ensembles.
The following year, Graig began to pursue songwriting as a member of a
band called MoonBike. After high school, he
attended Columbia
University, where he would graduate with a major in music. As a
student, Graig took his knowledge of
music theory to new levels and
discovered an interest in audio production and technology.
After college, Graig spent a year teaching English
as a foreign language in Japan. Currently, he resides in
the Prospect Heights section of Brooklyn, New York and is continuing
his
education at the Institute of
Audio Research in Manhattan.
